Kobe Terrace Park, nestled between Danny Woo gardens and I-5 in Seattle’s Japan Town, features specimen cherry trees and a 10’ tall yukimi-doro style stone lantern - both gifts form the city of Kobe in honor of the 1976 bicentennial of the United States. The winding path through the cherry trees is illuminated by some of the remaining original streetlights selected by neighborhood residents in 1976.
For this project, the 300lb streetlight heads were completely removed, cleaned, and retrofit with a completely new, custom optical system. 3000 Kelvin LED light engines provide indirect light, bouncing off a new, white-painted upper shroud, and a custom, white painted internal reflector.
In addition to pedestrian poles lights, lighting was added to the historic stone lantern. The wooden frames were replaced and new textural amber glass was added, along with a new three-lamp socket holder for simple medium-screw base filament light sources, for ease of ongoing maintenance by the parks department.
